Wayne County is located in the southeastern region of North Carolina. Its county seat is Goldsboro. The county was founded in 1779 from a portion of Dobbs County. It was named in honor of a general in the American Revolutionary War, “Mad Anthony” Wayne. The total area of the county is 557 square miles.
