Sampson County is located in the southeast region of North Carolina. Its county seat is Clinton. The county was created in 1784 after the American Revolutionary War from a portion of Duplin County. The county was named after John Sampson, the first Register of Deeds for Duplin County. The total area of the county is 962 square miles.
