Robeson County can be found in the south central region of North Carolina. Lumberton serves as the county seat. The county was created in 1787 from a portion of Bladen County. It was named after a Revolutionary War hero, Col. Thomas Robeson of Tar Heel. According to the 2010 census, there are 134,168 people living in the 951-square mile area. Robeson County’s Register of Deeds is responsible for the safekeeping of a large amount of public records. These include real estate related documents, vital records, and military discharges. The office is open Mondays through Fridays from 8:15am to 5:15pm, except on holidays.
