Person County is located in the central region of North Carolina. Roxboro is the county seat. The county was created in 1746 from a portion of Edgecombe County. It was named in honor of a Revolutionary War Brigadier General, Thomas Person, who also made significant contributions to the county. The total area of the county is 404 square miles with a population of 39,464 based on the 2010 census. The surrounding counties are Halifax County (VA) in the north, Granville County in the east, Durham and Orange County in the south, and Caswell County in the west.
