Pamlico County can be found in the southeast region of North Carolina. Its county seat is Bayboro. The county was founded in 1872 from portions of Beaufort County and Craven County. It was named after the largest lagoon along the North American East Coast which adjoins it, Pamlico Sound. The total area of the county is 567 square miles with a population of 13,143 (2010 census).
