Montgomery County can be found in the south central region of North Carolina. Troy serves as the county seat. In 1779, a portion of Anson County was used to create Montgomery County. The county was named after a general in the American Revolutionary War who was killed in 1775, Richard Montgomery. The total area of the county is 502 square miles.
