Lenoir County, North Carolina Overview

Lenoir County can be found in the southeast region of North Carolina. The county seat is Kinston. The county was created in 1791 by European Americans from a portion of Dobbs County. They named the county after an American Revolutionary War officer, William Lenoir, who fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain. The total area of the county is 403 square miles, most of which is land. According to the 2010 census, there are 59,495 people living in the area. The counties bordering Lenoir County are Greene County in the north, Pitt County in the northeast, Craven County in the east, Jones County in the south, Duplin County in the southwest, and Wayne County in the west.
