Guilford County is located in the central region of North Carolina. Greensboro is the county seat. Guilford County was founded in 1771 from portions of Rowan and Orange Counties. It was named in honor of Earl of Guilford, Francis North, who was the father of Frederick North, the British Prime Minister from 1770 to 1782. According to the 2015 census, there are an estimated 517,600 people living in the 658-square mile area which makes this the third most populated county in the state. Requests for certified copies of a real estate document costs $5 for the first page and $2 for each additional page. Photocopies cost 5¢ per page in-house or $1 by mail.
