Craven County, North Carolina
Craven County is located in the state of North Carolina. The county was formed in 1705 as Archdale Precinct from the now-extinct Bath County; it was later renamed Craven Precinct in 1712 and gained county status in 1739. The county was named after William, Earl of Craven. New Bern is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 103,505 people and a total area of 774 square miles, of which 65 square miles is water and 709 square miles is land. Craven County borders the following counties: Beaufort County to the northeast, Pamlico County to the east, Carteret County to the southeast, Jones County to the southwest, Lenoir County to the west, and Pitt County to the northwest.
