Cabarrus County can be found in the southwest region of North Carolina. Its county seat is Concord. Cabarrus County was created in 1792 from a portion of Mecklenburg County and named in honor of a speaker of the North Carolina House of Commons, Stephen Cabarrus. According to the 2016 census, there are 201,590 people living in the 364-square mile area. The county is bordered in the north by Rowan County, in the west by Stanly County, in the south by Union County, in the west by Mecklenburg County, and in the northwest by Iredell County.
