Bladen County can be found in the south central region of North Carolina. It was created in 1734 as a precinct of Bath County before becoming one in 1739. It was named in honor of a member of the Board of Trade, Martin Bladen. The county seat is Elizabethtown. According to the 2010 census, the population is 35,190. The total area of the county is 887 square miles. The county is bordered in the north by Cumberland County, in the east by Sampson County, in the southeast by Pender County, in the south by Columbus County, in the west by Robeson County.
