Avery County can be found in the Northwest region of North Carolina. Newland serves as its county seat. Avery county was established in 1911, the youngest of all the counties in North Carolina. It was named in honor of the first Attorney General of North Carolina who also served as a colonel during the American Revolutionary War, Waightstill Avery.
