Washington County, New York
Washington County is located in the state of New York. The county was formed on March 12, 1772, and named after George Washington, the Revolutionary War general (and later first President of the United States). Kingsbury is the largest town in the county, while Fort Edward is the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 63,216 people and a total area of 846 square miles, of which 15 square miles is water and 831 square miles is land. Washington County borders the following counties: Essex County to the north; Addison County, Vermont, to the northeast; Rutland County, Vermont, to the east; Bennington County, Vermont, to the southeast; Rensselaer County to the south; Saratoga County to the southwest; and Warren County to the west.
