Ulster County is located in the state of New York. The county was formed in 1683 and named after the Irish province of Ulster. Kingston is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 182,495 people and a total area of 1,161 square miles, of which 37 square miles is water and 1,124 square miles is land.
