New York County is located in the state of New York. Named after Lenape: Manna-hata (island of many hills). As of 2017, the county has a population of 1,664,727. The county has a total area of 33.58 square miles, 22.83 square miles of which is land, and 10.76 square miles is water. The county consists of 70 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 10025 recorded as the one with the largest population. New York County borders the following counties: Queens, New York to the east; The Bronx, New York to the northeast; Bergen County, New Jersey to the northwest; Hudson County, New Jersey and Staten Island to the southwest, and; Brooklyn, New York to the southeast.

New York County Clerk Information

The New York County Clerk accepts for filing, pursuant to Section 130 of the General Business Law, certificates of sole proprietorships, partnerships, and assumed names for businesses, including DBA, for businesses the address of which is in New York County. The Business Certificate form is X-74 for a partnership and X-201 for a sole proprietorship, and they can be purchased at any commercial or legal stationery store, including the candy shop/newsstand in the lobby of the courthouse at 60 Centre Street. The filing is made in Room 109B in the basement at 60 Centre Street. The filing fee is $ 100 cash, and certified copies are an additional $ 10 each. The County Clerk will accept only cash, or Visa, MasterCard, or American Express for payment of the requested fee. No personal or company checks are accepted.
A certified copy of a judgment of divorce that was issued by a Justice of the Supreme Court in New York County may be obtained by requesting the case file from the Record Room (Room 103B, in the basement), 60 Centre Street, making a photocopy of the judgment in that Room, and having it certified at the Certification Desk in Room 141B (in the basement). Case files in matrimonial matters are, by statute, confidential and are available only to the parties to the proceeding or their attorneys, upon showing of proper identification. If your judgment of divorce was issued in another county, you can secure a copy of that judgment only in that other county. Certified copies of New York County judgments of divorce entered after March 15, 1999 may be obtained by going directly to the Certification Desk in Room 141B, which can access such judgments electronically.

New York State Court E-Filing

The given link below is a list of fees that must be paid in Supreme Court actions and certain other fees payable to the County Clerk of New York County. These fees must be paid to the County Clerk in one of his two Cashier’s Offices (Room 160 and Room 141B in the basement, both at 60 Centre Street). The fees must be paid in cash, by Visa, Mastercard, or American Express credit cards, by an attorney’s check made payable to the New York County Clerk, or in the form of a U.S. postal money order made payable to the New York County Clerk. An attorney’s check will be accepted if it is from a New York attorney, provided that words such as “Attorney at Law” or “Esq.” appear thereon, together with the attorney’s address and phone number. Other checks must be certified. Fees in cases in the court’s electronic filing system are paid by credit card online.
