Genesee County, New York
Genesee County is located in the state of New York. The county was established in 1802 and organized in 1803. Its name is from the Seneca Indian word “Gen-nis’-hee-yo”, meaning “the beautiful valley”. Batavia is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 60,079 people and a total area of 495 square miles, of which 2.4 square miles is water and 493 square miles is land. Genesee County borders the following counties: Erie County to the west, Livingston County to the southeast, Monroe County to the east, Niagara County to the northwest, Orleans County to the north, and Wyoming County to the south.
