The county was formed in 1821, and at that time, it consisted of the towns of Amherst, Eden, Evans, Hamburg, Holland, Aurora, Boston, Clarence, Collins, Concord, Sardinia, and Wales. The county’s name comes from Lake Erie, which in turn comes from the Erie tribe of Native Americans. It is free to search for public records; however, images (copies of original documents) require a fee of $5.00 per page. Procedures are explained at the link.
