The Bronx, New York

The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City in the state of New York. The Borough was created in 1898 and named after Jonas Bronck, who created the first settlement as part of the New Netherland colony in 1639. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Bronx County has a population of approximately 1,438,159 people and a total area of 57 square miles, of which 15 square miles is water and 42 square miles  is land. The Bronx has the fourth highest population, the fourth largest land area, and the third-highest population density in the state of New York. The Bronx borders the following counties: Westchester County to the north, Queens County (Queens) to the south, New York County (Manhattan) to the southwest. and Bergen County, New Jersey, to the west.

The Offices of the City Register maintain the New York City public records for Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens.  Some of the records maintained include but are not limited to real and personal property transfers, interest, and ownership information. Records dated after 1966 can be recorded and corrected at ACRIS terminals in City Register Offices or through the Automated City Register Information System (ACRIS) online. For records prior to 1966, they can only be accessed in the City Register’s Office in the borough where the property is located.

You can get uncertified copies for $1 a page and certified copies of a property record or deed dated from 1966 to the present for $4 a page through the Automated City Register Information System (ACRIS). Payment must be made online when you make the request. Once you find the document you are looking for, click on its image, click “print document”, and use the Print Index screen to request a copy.
