Allegany County is a county located in the state of New York. The county was formed in 1806. The county seat is Belmont and it has a population of 46,894 as of 2017. The county has a total area of 1034 square miles, with its land area encompassing 1029 square miles, and its water area 5.1 square miles. The county consists of 35 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 14895 recorded as the one with the largest population. Moreover, Allegany County borders the following counties: Steuben County, New York to the east; Cattaraugus County, New York to the west; Livingston County, New York to the northeast; Wyoming County, New York to the northwest; McKean County, Pennsylvania to the southwest, and; Potter County, Pennsylvania to the southeast.
Allegany County Clerk Information
The County Clerk is responsible for the receipting, indexing, storage and retrieval of documents, including legal records pertaining to ownership of real property and all court records, except criminal records, for Supreme Court and County Court. The County Clerk’s Office is also responsible for the collection of revenue for these services, which are provided to several levels of government.
The only marriage records which the county has in this office are for the years 1908 to April 1935. Marriage records are kept in the Office of the Town Clerk of the town where the license is issued and also with the NYS Dept. of Health. There is no alphabetical listing for court records but the cases fall in order of their occurrence back to 1806. These ledger books of miscellaneous records go back to 1806 and contain listings such as: Formations of some churches, listing Elders, Deacons, etc.: formation of many school districts with names, misc. legal appointments, misc. sales, Civil War soldier discharges, etc., etc. There are 18 volumes labeled Misc. A through R. All these records can be can be taken from the County Office.Alternatively, the County Clerk has partnered with Info Quick Solutions, Inc. to provide online access to all records that they keep in their office. You will need to fill up and send the request for subscription to the company. The subscription has an activation fee of $50.00, with a quarterly fee of $600.00.
