Eureka County, Nevada Overview

Eureka County is located in the U.S. state of Nevada. The county was formed in 1873 and named after Greek expression Eureka. The county seat is Eureka. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2010, the county has a population of approximately 1,987 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has an area of 4,180 square miles of which 4,176 square miles is land and 4.3 square miles is water. Eureka County borders the following counties: Elko County to the northeast; White Pine County to the east; Nye County to the south and Lander County to the west. Eureka County has four zip codes. The zip codes are 89820, 89822, 89821 and 89316. The most populated zip code is 89316.

Eureka County Assessor’s Office Information

The Assessor and his staffs are charged with the responsibility of accurately and efficiently estimating values of all taxable properties. According to Nevada law, the Assessor is required to discover, list and value all real property (land, homes, commercial buildings, ranches) within the county. The property is assessed at 35% of its current taxable value. The Assessor must also value personal property of all businesses, mobile homes, aircraft and any other personal property, which is taxable. The Assessor collects personal property tax only as the ex-officio treasurer of the county.

The Assessor is also required to maintain an updated set of plat maps that display all of the parcels in the county. The Assessor also assists other county entities with their mapping issues, including the Public Works Department and Road Department. The Assessor’s office also acts as a Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles service center for Eureka County. The office performs registration and titling transactions, including vehicle renewals and issuing new plates. The Assessor does not issue drivers licenses.

The Eureka County Recorder’s office is responsible for managing the official public property records.
