York County can be found in the southeastern region of Nebraska. The county seat is also called York. The county was created in 1870. There are different theories on where its name comes from. Some believe the county was named after York, England while others believe it was named after York County in Pennsylvania where some of the early settlers came from. The county’s total area is 576 square miles with a population of 13,665 (2010). The adjacent counties are Polk County in the north, Seward County in the east, Fillmore County in the south, and Hamilton County in the west.
