Washington County is located in the northeastern region of Nebraska. Its county seat is Blair. The county was first organized in 1854 as one of the 8 original counties by Governor Thomas B. Cuming and named in honor of the first US President George Washington. A year later, the county was reorganized. The county’s total area is 393 square miles. According to the 2010 census, there are 20,234 people residing in the county. The adjacent counties are Burt County (north), Harrison County in Iowa (northeast), Pottawattamie County in Iowa (southeast), Douglas County (south), and Dodge County (west). Washington County Officials Information
The County Clerk is tasked with attending all meetings of the County Board of Commissioners as well as recording all of its proceedings. The Clerk also performs the same function for the County Board of Equalization. In addition, the Clerk serves as bookkeeper of the County, overseeing county payroll and handling all accounts payable of the county. The Clerk is also responsible for recording all official bonds as well as the layout, changes, and improvements made to all roads. He or she also coordinates with the Secretary of State.
