Polk County is located in the southeastern region of Nebraska. Osceola is the county seat. The county was created in 1856 and then organized in 1870. The county was named in honor of the 11th US President, James Knox Polk. The total area of the county is 441 square miles and the population is 5,406 based on the 2010 census. The counties bordering the area in the north is Platte County, in the east is Butler County, in the south is York County, in the southwest is Hamilton County, and in the northwest is Merrick County.
