Merrick County is located in Northeast Nebraska. Central City serves as the county seat. Created in 1858, the county was only organized in 1864. It was named in honor of territorial legislator Henry W. DePuy’s wife whose maiden name was Merrick. According to the 2010 census, there are 7,845 people living in the 494-square mile area.
