Lancaster County, Nebraska

Lancaster County is located in the state of Nebraska. The county was formed in 1859. The original county seat was the village of Lancaster, but it was later changed to Lincoln, which is also the largest city in the county. Other cities in the county include Hickman and Waverly. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 285,407 people, making it the second-most populous county in Nebraska. It has a total area of 846 square miles, of which 8.8 square miles is water and 838 square miles is land. Lancaster County borders the following counties: Saunders County to the north, Cass County to the northeast, Otoe County to the southeast, Johnson County to the southeast, Gage County to the south, Saline County to the southwest, Seward County to the northwest, and Butler County to the northwest.

The Lancaster County Register of Deeds is responsible for receiving, recording, and maintaining all records related to land transactions in the county. Some of the records maintained by the office include but are not limited to deeds, mortgages, liens, UCC filings, deeds of trust, assignments, releases, plats, and other instruments submitted for recording.

To do a public records search, you will have to visit the Lancaster County Register of Deeds Website. However, online access to Register of Deeds images is restricted to registered users; to register, follow the instruction on the website. Images are available online for all documents filed on or after June 19, 1987. You can also access public records by visiting the office of the Register of Deeds. Electronic indexing is available for all documents filed on or after June 19, 1987. Handwritten index books are available prior to this date. Images of documents filed prior to June 19, 1987 are available from microfilm located in the Register of Deeds Office.
