Knox County, Nebraska Overview
Knox County can be found in the northeastern region of Nebraska. Its county seat is Center. Founded in 1857, the county was initially called L’Eau Qui Court for the river that the Native Americans called “Niobrara.” Both names mean “running water.” In 1873, a statute was passed to change the name to Knox. The total area of the county is 1,140 square miles. According to the 2010 census, there are 8,701 people living in this area. The county is bordered in the north by Bon Homme County (SD), in the northeast by Yankton County (SD), in the east by Cedar County, in the southeast by Pierce County, in the southwest by Antelope County, in the west by Holt County, and in the northwest by Charles Mix County (SD). Knox County Officials Information
The County Clerk acts as the secretary of the Board of Supervisors as well as the County Board of Equalization. He or she handles the county payroll and accounts payables.
