Douglas County, Nebraska

Douglas County is located in the state of Nebraska. The county was formed on November 23, 1854, and named after Stephen A. Douglas (1813–1861), U.S. Senator from Illinois. Omaha is the largest city in the county and also the county seat; other cities in the county include Bennington, Ralston, and Valley. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 517,110, making it the most populous county in the state of Nebraska, home to over one-fourth of Nebraska’s residents. It has a total area of 339 square miles, of which 328 square miles is land and 11 square miles is water. Douglas County borders the following counties: Dodge County to the northwest; Washington County to the north;, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, to the east; Sarpy County to the south; and Saunders County to the west.
