Cherry County is located in the north central region of Nebraska. Valentine is the county seat. The county was created in 1883 and named in honor of Army officer Lt. Samuel A. Cherry who was successful in keeping all 20 of his men alive during the Battle of Milk Creek. The total area of the county is 6009 square miles with a population of 5,713 (2010).
