Toole County is located in the U.S. state of Montana. The county was formed in 1914 and named after Joseph Toole, the first and fourth Governor of Montana. The county seat is Shelby. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2015, the county has a population of approximately 5,087 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,946 square miles of which 1,916 square miles is land and 30 square miles is water. Toole County borders the following counties: Glacier County, Montana to the west; Pondera County, Montana to the south; Liberty County, Montana to the east; County of Warner No. 5, Alberta to the north; Village of Coutts, Alberta to the north and County of Forty Mile No. 8, Alberta to the northeast. The Office of the Toole County Clerk of Court is the record keeping entity for the county. The Clerk elected to serve a four-year term. It is there that all civil, criminal, adoption, guardianship, probate, juvenile, and commitment cases are filed. Toole County Clerk and Recorder’s Office Information

The County Clerk and Recorder’s Office preserves the records of the County. The Records Department is responsible for the recording, and indexing of deeds, mortgages, surveys, mining work, resolutions, military discharges and various other documents. The Department also files birth and death records, federal tax liens, notices of action and realty transfer certificates.

The County Clerk and Recorder provides financial support services to public officials, departments and the public. The office reviews and processes claims, assists in budget preparation and budget management. This office also maintains salary, payroll and human resource information to ensure the county employees are paid accurately according to established procedures and law.

Additionally, the County Elections Department is responsible for the administration of federal, state, county, city and special district elections in the county.
