Toole County is located in the U.S. state of Montana. The county was formed in 1914 and named after Joseph Toole, the first and fourth Governor of Montana. The county seat is Shelby. Toole County borders the following counties: Glacier County, Montana to the west; Pondera County, Montana to the south; Liberty County, Montana to the east; County of Warner No. 5, Alberta to the north; Village of Coutts, Alberta to the north and County of Forty Mile No. 8, Alberta to the northeast. The County Clerk and Recorder’s Office preserves the records of the County. The Records Department is responsible for the recording, and indexing of deeds, mortgages, surveys, mining work, resolutions, military discharges and various other documents.
