Powder River County is located in the U.S. state of Montana. The county was formed in 1919 and named after The Powder River. The county seat is Broadus. Powder River County borders the following counties: Big Horn County, Montana to the west; Rosebud County, Montana to the west; Custer County, Montana to the north; Carter County, Montana to the east; Crook County, Wyoming to the southeast; Campbell County, Wyoming to the south and Sheridan County, Wyoming to the southwest. Powder River County Clerk and Recorder’s Office Information

The Clerk and Recorder’s office records and maintains transfers and other transactions relating to real property with Powder River County. These records include: deeds, mortgages, powers of attorney, military discharges, oil and gas leases, liens, certificates of surveys and subdivision plats.

Birth and death certificates are also issued and maintained at the Clerk and Recorder’s office. This office also files military discharges. These records are not public records, and can only be issued to those having legal authority for access.

The Clerk and Recorder is involved in the preparation and maintenance of the county budget as well as preparation of the annual financial report of the county. In addition, the Clerk works with the auditors throughout the year and during the audit of the county’s financial records. The Clerk is also involved in the processing of delinquent taxes. The Clerk attends the weekly Commissioner meeting and keeps the official minutes of the Commission; processes the payroll and benefits for county employees as well as handles claims of vendors who have supplied products or provided services to the office.
