Pondera County is located in the U.S. state of Montana. The county was formed in 1919 and named after pend d’oreille, French words meaning “ear pendant. The county seat is Conrad. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2015, the county has a population of approximately 6,184 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,640 square miles of which 1,623 square miles is land and 17 square miles is water. Pondera County borders the following counties: Glacier County, Montana to the north; Toole County, Montana to the north; Liberty County, Montana to the east; Chouteau County, Montana to the east; Teton County, Montana to the south and Flathead County, Montana to the west. Pondera County Clerk of Courts Office Information

The Clerk of District Court’s office is the “Hub” of the Judicial System. The staffs in the Clerk’s office take minutes during all Pondera County District Court hearings and trials. All actions that take place in the Judicial System are filed with the Clerk of District Court by attorneys. The Clerk’s Office issues marriage licenses and oversees the law library. The office also collects child support payments, fines, and disburses accordingly. This office prepares jury selection each year, which is picked randomly by computer. The Clerk of Court is appointed by the Federal Government to handle Passport applications.

Pondera County Clerk and Recorder’s Office Information

The Clerk and Recorder’s office records and maintains transfers and other transactions relating to real property with Pondera County. These records are public records and are routinely utilized by banks, title companies, oil and gas companies and individuals for various purposes. In addition, the Clerk works with the County Planning board, the contract land planner and sanitarian with respect to certificates of survey and subdivision plats as well as compliance with state law.

Birth and death certificates are also issued and maintained at the Clerk and Recorder’s office. These records are not public records, but are filed in the Clerk and Recorder’s office for the convenience of family members and people having legal authority for access. This office also files certificates of discharge of persons who served with the United States Armed Forces. Military Discharge records are confidential and can only be issued to the service person or those having legal authority for access.

The Clerk and Recorder is involved in the preparation and maintenance of the county budget as well as preparation of the annual financial report of the county which is submitted to the State of Montana. In addition, the Clerk works with the auditors throughout the year and during the audit of the county’s financial records. The Clerk is also involved in the processing of delinquent taxes. The Clerk attends the weekly Commissioner meeting and keeps the official minutes of the Commission. The Clerk’s office processes the payroll and benefits for county employees as well as handles claims of vendors who have supplied products or provided services to the office.
