Hill County is located in the U.S. state of Montana. The county was formed in 1912 and named after James J. Hill (1838-1916), a leading railroad tycoon. The county seat is Havre. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2015, the county has a population of approximately 16,572 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,916 square miles of which 2,899 square miles is land and 17 square miles is water. Hill County borders the following counties: Liberty County, Montana to the west; Chouteau County, Montana to the south; Blaine County, Montana to the east; County of Forty Mile No. 8, Alberta to the northwest; Cypress County, Alberta to the north and Reno No. 51, Saskatchewan to the northeast. Hill County Clerk and Recorder’s Office Information
Primary responsibilities of the Clerk and Recorder include but are not limited to, recording and maintaining the majority of all the legal documents relating to real estate records, land descriptions, plats and surveys, county birth and death records and the records of the Board of County commissioners. This office also maintains county-wide accounting and financial reporting system, budgets and fixed asset control.
The election department maintains voter records, prepares for and conducts primary, general and county elections. Preparations include certifying the local ballot, preparing ballot layouts, assembling and distributing supplies and training election judges.
