Granite County is located in the U.S. state of Montana. The county was formed in 1893 and named after the granite rocks prevalent in the area’s mountains. The county seat is Philipsburg. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2015, the county has a population of approximately 3,368 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,733 square miles of which 1,727 square miles is land and 5.6 square miles is water. Granite County borders the following counties: Missoula County, Montana to the north; Powell County, Montana to the east; Deer Lodge County, Montana to the south and Ravalli County, Montana to the west. Granite County Clerk and Recorder’s Office Information

The Granite County Clerk and Recorder is responsible for recording and maintaining various legal documents relating to real estate records, land descriptions, county birth and death records and the records of the Board of County Commissioners. The County Clerk and Recorder also acts as the Election Administrator of Granite County. As Election Administrator, the Clerk oversees all aspects of the primary, local, and general elections.

The office has images from 1965 through present day. Granite County is in the process of indexing 87,000 images that is pulled off from microfilms and placed in the indexing software.
