Gallatin County, Montana

Gallatin County is located in the state of Montana. The county was formed in 1865 and named after Albert Gallatin, U.S. Treasury Secretary from 1801 to 1814. Bozeman is the largest city in the county and also the county seat; other cities in the county include Belgrade and Three Forks. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 89,513 people, making it the fourth-most populous county in Montana. It covers a total area of 2,632 square miles, of which 29 square miles is water and 2,603 square miles is land. Gallatin County borders the following counties: Madison County to the west; Jefferson County to the northwest; Broadwater County to the north; Meagher County to the northeast; Park County to the east; Park County, Wyoming, to the southeast; Teton County, Wyoming, to the southeast; and Fremont County, Idaho, to the southwest.

In order to obtain a marriage license in Gallatin County, the applicants must apply together, in person, at the County Clerk’s office. Both parties must present their state-issued picture ID, military ID, or passport, and know their social security number
