Osage County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county was formed in 1841 and named after Osage River, a 360 miles long tributary of the Missouri River in central Missouri; the name of the river is probably derived from a French corruption of “Washazhe” – the name of the Osage Native Americans. The county seat is Linn. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 13,688 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 610 square miles of which 604 square miles is land and 6.1 square miles is water. Osage County borders the following counties: Callaway County to the north; Gasconade County to the east; Maries County to the south; Miller County to the southwest; Cole County to the west and Montgomery County to the northeast. Osage County Recorder’s Office Information

The Recorder of Deeds issues marriage licenses and records real estate transfers, deeds of trust, power of attorney, surveys, tax liens and military discharges. The Recorder has records dated back to 1841 to present. These records include records pertaining to marriage licenses and land transfers. The Recorder’s Office also has birth and death records from 1882 to 1892. The office also has original marriage licenses dated 1934 to 1994. All the documents maintained at this office are public records and are open to the public for inspection. The public are allowed to do research for family genealogy, marriages, century farms, subdivision plats and restrictions. Recording fees are $24.00 for the first page and $3.00 for each additional page. Certified copies are $2.00 including $0.50 for each page. Copies are available for $0.50 per page.
