Newton County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county was formed in 1838 and named after John Newton (1755–1780), legendary soldier of the American Revolution. The county seat is Neosho. Newton County borders the following counties: Jasper County to the north; Lawrence County to the northeast; Barry County to the southeast; McDonald County to the south; Ottawa County, Oklahoma to the west and Cherokee County, Kansas to the northwest.
