The county was formed in 1839 and named after Felix Grundy, a U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senator from Tennessee who also served as the 13th Attorney General of the United States. Grundy County Recorder of Deeds Office Information

The primary duties of the Recorder of Deeds as follows:

  • Recording of documents pertaining to real estate
  • Federal and state liens
  • Servicemen’s records
  • Issuing of marriage license

The Recorder of Deeds also records other kinds of documents if they’re compliant with state statutes. The records in the office date back to 1841. All the recorded documents are public and copies are available by paying a fee. Plain copies are $0.25 and a certified copy is $9.00. A certified copy is required for name changes. Military discharges are recorded at no cost; however, the original DD-214 must be presented.
