Cole County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county was formed in 1820 and named after pioneer Captain Stephen Cole, an Indian fighter and pioneer settler, who built Cole’s Fort in Boonville. The county seat is Jefferson City. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 76,699 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 402 square miles, of which 394 square miles is land and 8.2 square miles is water. Cole County borders the following counties: Boone County to the north; Callaway County to the northeast; Osage County to the southeast; Miller County to the southwest; and Moniteau County to the northwest. Cole County Circuit Court Information

This Court is a State trial court where issues involving rights and responsibilities of individuals and Missouri laws are tried. The judges of the Circuit Court hear civil lawsuits involving the awarding of money and enforcement of rights between individuals. The judges also try criminal cases where the State charges when laws have been broken and punishment should be imposed. This court has four judges: three circuit judges and one associate circuit judge. The court also regularly assisted by senior judges assigned to our Circuit by the Missouri Supreme Court.

Cole County Recorder of Deeds Office Information

The Cole County Recorder’s office is the repository for all Cass County land transactions. The Recorder’s duties include reviewing, processing, recording and delivering back to the submitter all transfers of property and related documents. The County Recorder’s office is also responsible for indexing, scanning, microfilming and providing certified copies of surveys, plats, deeds, deeds of trust, assignments, release deeds, powers of attorney, deed restrictions, federal and state tax liens, Uniform Commercial Code fixture filings, and other instruments of writing.
