The county was formed in 1822 and named after the U.S. Representative Henry Clay from Kentucky, later member of the United States Senate and United States Secretary of State. The county seat is Liberty. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 230,473 people. The Recorder’s office maintains a comprehensive set of public records according to the statutes of the State of Missouri while providing ease of access to these records which contain public information.
