Cedar County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county was formed in 1845 and named after the abundance of Eastern Red Cedar trees. The county seat is Stockton. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 13,913 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 499 square miles of which 474 square miles is land and 24 square miles is water. Cedar County borders the following counties: St. Clair County to the north; Polk County to the east; Dade County to the south; Hickory County to the northeast and Vernon County to the west. Cedar County Circuit Clerk’s Office Information

The Circuit Clerk is the appointing authority of the Circuit, Associate & Probate Courts. The Circuit Clerk is also the “Keeper of the Records”. The responsibility of a Circuit Clerk is to receive new filings of civil lawsuits, criminal cases, and domestic relations matters. The Circuit Clerk assists pro se litigants and people seeking an ex parte’ order of protection, assists the Judges in the courtroom by recording hearings and swearing in witnesses during a trial. The Circuit Clerk is also held responsible for calling in jurors to serve on a jury trial and coordinate with the Judge and attorneys through the trial and collecting and paying out fees appropriately that are collected during each month. The Clerk must have financial responsibility and able to report those fees to the proper entity.
