Adair County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county was formed in 1841 and named after John Adair, a pioneer, soldier, and seventh Governor of Kentucky. The county seat is Kirksville. Adair County borders the following counties: Putnam County to the northwest; Schuyler County to the north; Scotland County to the northeast; Knox County to the east; Macon County to the south; Linn County to the southwest and Sullivan County to the west.
