Adair County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county was formed in 1841 and named after John Adair, a pioneer, soldier, and seventh Governor of Kentucky. The county seat is Kirksville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 569 square miles of which 567 square miles is land and 2.1 square miles is water. Adair County borders the following counties: Putnam County to the northwest; Schuyler County to the north; Scotland County to the northeast; Knox County to the east; Macon County to the south; Linn County to the southwest and Sullivan County to the west. The Recorder of Deeds office of Adair County is governed by the State Statutes of Missouri. The primary responsibility of the Adair County Recorder’s Office is to record, maintain and preserve the real estate records for Adair County.
