Saint Clair County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county was formed in 1841 and named after Arthur St. Clair, an American soldier, and Governor of the Northwest Territory. The county seat is Osceola. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 9,487 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 702 square miles of which 670 square miles is land and 32 square miles is water. Saint Clair County borders the following counties: Henry County to the north; Benton County to the northeast; Hickory County to the east; Polk County to the southeast; Cedar County to the south; Vernon County to the southwest and Bates County to the northwest. The Clerk of the Circuit Court maintains court records/proceedings for St. Clair County Associate and Circuit Courts, Osceola, Lowry City and Appleton City Municipal Courts. The Clerk of the Circuit Court is mainly responsible for maintaining records of the court, collections, accounting for, and disbursing all monies paid into the court; and performing other duties, as necessary to assist in the court in performing its duties. The Circuit Court Clerk receives, processes, and maintains the judgments’, rules orders, and all other proceedings of the court, issues and processes summons, subpoenas, executions, garnishments, sequestrations, judgments, orders, and commitments. The Circuit Court Clerk selects and summons jurors, assists with genealogical searches including criminal records, civil (excluding order of protection, small claims, landlord-tenant issues, and judgments less than $25,000.00), dissolutions, name changes, juvenile, adoptions, financial, paternity, child support, immigration records, and processes passport applications.

Saint Clair County Recorder of Deeds Office Information

The Recorder of Deeds of Saint Clair County has many duties in regards to the preservation of records. All transactions pertaining to land/real estate are recorded and permanently archived in this office. St. Clair County land records date back to 1840. All land records have been microfilmed from 1840 through the present date. The Recorders Office also handles marriage license applications; issues marriage licenses, files the license after the marriage, reports marriages to the state, and maintains a permanent record of marriage. St. Clair County marriage records date back to 1855. The records are not on the internet but are accessible to the public by way of our public computer workstation. Records available on the computer at the present time include all land records indexed with images from early 1920 to the present. All federal and state tax liens/releases indexes from August 2000 to the present.
