The main duties of the Recorder of Deeds Office are recording, preserving, and retrieving all records relating to real estate ownership in the county. Land records start in 1865. The Recorder’s Office issues and maintains records of marriage licenses. This office has marriage records that date back to 1865. The Recorder of Deeds also records and files copies of Armed Forces discharge papers for all veterans who reside in the county as well as files state and federal tax liens.
