Grenada County Overview

Grenada County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi, was established in 1870. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,906. Its county seat is Grenada, and it is also the largest community. The county is named for the province of Granada in southern Spain. Its western border is formed by the Yazoo River and it fronts on the Mississippi Delta. Cotton cultivation was important to its economy well into the 20th century. The total area of the county is 422 square miles of land, plus 27 square miles of water. Neighboring counties are all in Mississippi and are: Yalobusha to the north, Calhoun to the east, Webster to the southeast, Montgomery and Carroll to the south, Leflore to the west, and Tallahatchie to the northwest. A portion of the nationally protected, Tallahatchie National Wildlife Refuse resides in Grenada County as well. Of the seven zip codes deployed in the county, 38901 has the largest population.
