George County, established in 18910 is a dry county in Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 22,578. Its county seat, and largest community is Lucedale. The county is named for James Z. George, US Senator from Mississippi. The county has a total area of 484 square miles, and all except five square miles is land, the remaining five is water. The county is partially home to the nationally protected De Soto National Forest and is bordered by four other Mississippi counties, plus one Alabama County. Green County, MS borders to the north, Mobile County, AL to the east, Jackson County, MS to the south, Stone County, MS to the west and Perry County, MS to the northwest. There are only two zip codes assigned to the county, 39452 (the most populous) and 39573.
