Forrest County Overview
Forrest County in Mississippi was established in 1908 and named for a Confederate general, Nathan B. Forrest. The county seat, and the largest community is Hattiesburg. The total area of the county is 470 square miles, all of which is land, except for four square miles of water. Neighboring counties are: Jones to the northeast, Perry to the east, Stone to the south, Pearl River to the southwest, Lamar to the west, and Covington to the northwest. Forrest county is also partially home to the nationally protected, De Soto National Forest.
