Adams County Overview

Adams County, Mississippi, had a population of 32,297as of the 2010 census. The largest community and the county seat is Natchez and he county was created in 1799. Its name comes from the second POTUS, John Adams. Four Mississippi governors have come from this county, George Poindexter, John. Quitman, Gerard Brandon and David Holmes. The county has a total area of 488 square miles, 25 of which is water and the remaining 462 is land. Adams is neighbored to the north by Jefferson County, MS, to the east by Franklin County, MS and to the south by Wilkinson County, MS. Adams County is also neighbors with two Louisiana counties, Concordia to the southwest and Tensas Parish to the northwest. The county is also home or partially home to the Homochitto National Forest (partial), Natchez National Historical Park (partial), Natchez Trace Parkway (partial), and St. Catherine Creek National Wildlife Refuge.
