Todd County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1855 and named after John Blair Smith Todd, commander of Fort Ripley (1849-56); general in the Civil War; delegate in Congress from Dakota Territory (1861 and 1863-65); governor of Dakota Territory (1869-71). The county seat is Long Prairie. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 24,382 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 980 square miles of which 945 square miles is land and 35 square miles is water. Todd County borders the following counties: Wadena County to the north; Cass County to the northeast; Morrison County to the east; Stearns County to the south; Douglas County to the west and Otter Tail County to the northwest.
