Sherburne County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1856 and named after Moses Sherburne (1813–1873), Associate Justice of the Minnesota Territorial Supreme Court (1853-1857). The county seat is Elk River. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 90,158 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 451 square miles of which 433 square miles is land and 18 square miles is water. Sherburne County borders the following counties: Mille Lacs County to the north; Isanti County to the northeast; Anoka County to the southeast; Hennepin County to the south; Wright County to the southwest; Stearns County to the west and Benton County to the northwest.
