Rice County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1853 and named after Henry Mower Rice (1816-1894), former United States Senator from Minnesota (1858-1863). The county seat is Faribault. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 65,049 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 516 square miles of which 496 square miles is land and 20 square miles is water. Rice County borders the following counties: Dakota County to the northeast; Goodhue County to the east; Dodge County to the southeast; Steele County to the south; Waseca County to the southwest; Le Sueur County to the west and Scott County to the northwest. Rice County Recorder’s Office Information

The Rice County Recorder/Registrar of Titles is the custodian of all property and vital statistic records in Rice County. It is the responsibility of the Recorder to file all documents pertaining to Abstract and Torrens properties, federal and state tax liens, military discharges, plats, liens, miscellaneous documents, notary publics, minister ordinations and process marriage records. This office also processes of birth and death requisitions and filings as well as requests for document copies or certified copies.

The Recorder’s Office accepts, reviews, receipts, indexes & verifies, then scans to preserve the document. The Recorder is also the Registrar who examines real estate title and maintains certificates of title for all registered property. The Recorder’s Office also processes passport applications and takes passport photos.
